In the simplest of understanding, self-doubt is nothing but an intentional decision taken by the brain, fearing the uncertainty of outcome—forcibly telling you to “STOP, DO NOT TRY, WHAT IF.” It’s the brain deciding, “I don’t want to come out of my comfort zone. I have my boundaries, and your ask is pushing me to move out of it, so I am casually taking this decision of NOT TO ACT.”
The root cause is nothing but fear. Usually, the simplest problems have the hardest solutions. It’s funny to sit and think that throughout our life we’ve been told to enjoy the process, take one step at a time—and yet, the brain conveniently decides to jump the line and move directly to the outcome. Years of wiring can be pushed aside. The brain single-handedly decides to take a 180-degree turn.
Let’s Meet the Participants of the Situation
- Brain – Light-speed decision-making skills to put a lock on itself, stay calm, and not take any decision or process any information. Funny enough, the brain telling itself to “shut up.”
- Heart – Taking a backseat, like a fellow passenger in the car, thinking, “I’m just here to sit and enjoy what’s happening—it’s the brain running the show.”
- Gutt – Busy doing heavy negotiations with the brain to follow and believe in the process, not worry about the outcome. But the brain is ready for timepass, declaring, “I am a no-nonsense zone, and I am the origin of all senses.”
- Emotions – During the whole process of inaction, doing nothing, just sitting idle, waiting for someone to take a decision, and only then reacting. As if it’s an action-packed movie and their role is at the end.
What to Do When You’re Stuck in Self-Doubt and Can’t Find the Courage to Decide
- Realizing your position—that you’re in self-doubt—is the biggest decision and step you’ve taken. Being self-aware is half the battle won.
- Understanding the role of the brain, accepting where you are, and looking for possible solutions. Explore the possibilities with a willingness to address the situation.
- Gutt to act as a support system for the brain, helping bring more clarity.
- Emotion—celebrate the acknowledgement of self-doubt, and from there, recognize and appreciate the small steps forward.
- And then—take one small action. Any action. Because movement breaks the loop.
From Moody to Goodie: The Plot Twist
Self-doubt may be the brain’s favorite drama, but the real magic begins when the whole crew—brain, gutt, emotion, and action—decides to co-write the script. That’s when the moody turns into the goodie, and the journey becomes a blockbuster worth living.
